Boxley Village Summer Sunset Portrait Session with Brogan

Brogan and I had been planning on working together for some time, and I had wanted to replicate a location and idea from last year near the small Kent village of Boxley, while trying out some new lighting techniques as well. The session was arranged at the tail end of the main poppy flowering season, and I had hoped to catch them still in bloom in a large field near the village, where I did a sunset session with Katie back in 2018.

As the sun was still quite bright at the start of the session, Brogan and I headed to another field to 'warm up' with the early evening sun providing some beautiful dappled light through the trees before we headed over to the poppy fields.

Sadly we found that the poppy fields that were so prolific from last year had been replanted with more grape vines line the surrounding fields. So that was our great plan up in smoke!  Not one to be put off by this setback, we instead utilised the sun-bathed rows of vines as the backdrop to the second part of the session instead (we also came across a cute red phone box as well just next to the village pub, so that had to get used, too!)

It was great to see how my methods adapted to the new environment and, although we were still a little early for a proper sunset, the golden hour light towards the end was just lovely to work with and we made the best of what we had. Brogan was a lovely person to work with and she complimented the environment really well.
