The Secret Garden Festive Winter Wedding with Michael & Nicola

Christmas 2018 turned out to be pretty busy with weddings, with two in the few days before the 25th December - this being one of them! The Secret Garden is tucked away as part of the Mersham le Hatch complex on the A20 in Kent, and this was actually the first time I've been there, but hopefully it won't be the last. The central quad is surrounded by a restaurant/function space, bar and a ceremony room where the bulk of the day and night's activities took place.

We left the bride near the end of bridal prep, and myself and Mykey Day (whom I was assisting on this occasion) headed to the venue to meet Michael, the groom and welcome his guests before the ceremony began with the arrival of Nicola, the bride.

After the ceremony, everyone was greeted outside by carol singers, mulled wine and cocktails as well as marshmallows before the confetti tunnel and group photos - you would have thought it was snowing as the confetti fell over the newlyweds! It wasn't long before the cold got the better of most people and everyone congregated in the cosy bar area before heading in for the wedding breakfast.

Nicola and Michael had, of course, opted for a Christmas theme for their reception - with themed table names and decorations and a beautiful cake with a glittery topper. It all looked amazing, and really brought together the spirit of the season. After the meal and speeches, we had a surprise visit from a very special guest - Santa Claus himself! He was a great hit with the children, and the nearby greenhouse had been converted into a grotto which kept them all amused while the adults enjoyed some cocktails back in the bar.

It wasn't long before the band kicked off to finish the evening, with a roaming caricature artist too, there was plenty of entertainment for everyone as the songs played out and everyone hit the dance floor. This was a great wedding at a really quaint local venue, and I hope it won't be the last time I'm here at the Secret Garden. If you're planning your own wedding in Kent and are on the hunt for a really laid back photographer to capture all those candid moments, details, and love, then check out my wedding page and get in touch for more details or to arrange an informal meeting over a coffee.
