Tell me a bit about where you are – what are the surroundings like and what makes it a great part of the county to get married?
"Mount Ephraim is set on a hill in the village of Hernhill near Faversham in Kent. We have stunning views of the surrounding countryside and Thames estuary. Mount Ephraim is set within 10 acres of classical Edwardian gardens featuring a rock garden, lake, water garden, arboretum and grass maze and is part of an 800 acre estate and fruit farm."
What sort of venue are you? How would you describe the atmosphere – is it rustic, modern, contemporary, classical?
"Mount Ephraim is a classic stately home built in the 1870s so fairly formal in many ways but as it’s a privately owned family home it feels very relaxed and has tons of atmosphere."
What sort of couples do you find are most drawn to your venue? Are they looking for something quirky and alternative, something really polished and high end? Or do you feel you can adapt to pretty much any style as needed?
"We are fairly adaptable but I think the gardens are the most appealing aspect of Mount Ephraim in terms of our physical assets but also the fact that we are very flexible and offer couples plenty of time to enjoy their wedding – there’s no conveyor belt of weddings and we never book weddings on consecutive days so couples can come and set up the day before and take away their things the day after."
Tell me about some of the unique and special features at your venue. Does it have a really spectacular focal point, is the location just perfect, what sets it apart from other similar venues?
"We have two spectacular staircases at Mount Ephraim for the entrance of the bride whether you get married inside or out. For ceremonies in the main hall of the house we have an incredible cantilevered stair case under a huge glass skylight and in the garden we have some very formal grand steps featuring the family crest which leads onto a grass area and small pavilion for outdoor ceremonies in the garden surrounded by roses and wisteria at certain times of year."
Give us a truly amazing review you have received recently, or can you tell us about a particularly lovely wedding and what made it so special in your opinion?
"Our event coordinator Gosia is fantastic at her job!! She is attentive, answering any queries large and small, and making sure you’re happy. On the day she was everywhere making sure that everything ran smoothly and was just how you wanted. She was also genuinely excited to share in your day, you can tell it’s much more than just a job to her. Mount Ephraim itself is a stunning venue, both the house and gardens, we couldn’t have had the wedding anywhere more perfect. Our guests loved it just as much as we did. And the photos taken in the garden are stunning! The food was delicious, and all the staff involved were brilliant. It’s the most beautiful venue. - Rebecca & Christopher 10.6.17"
Where would you recommend the wedding couple go at the venue to get some really amazing photos taken – and when do you think is the ideal time for this to happen during a wedding day?
"We would definitely recommend our Japanese bridge down by the rock garden and lake. It’s particularly stunning late afternoon after the ceremony and before the wedding breakfast with some incredible natural light. For late summer and early autumn weddings you can’t beat our grass maze featuring herbaceous perennials and wildflowers."
Do you have on site accommodation for guests to stay in or for the bride to get ready in the morning? If not where would you recommend nearby?
"Yes we have a wedding preparation suite for the bride and any bridesmaids to get ready in with a huge en suite bathroom. We also have 5 luxuriously decorated B&B guest rooms including the Sir Edwyn Wedding Suite with incredible views over the gardens and down through to Whitstable on the north Kent coast. New for 2019 will be exclusive hire of the Garden Wing at Mount Ephraim – a fully furnished self catering house sleeping 12."
Have you won any national or regional awards, been featured in any publications or do you have a notable mention you would like to shout about?
"We were recently voted one of the 21 best wedding venues in Kent by Kent Live. Our B&B also won a Booking.com Guest Review Award for 2017."
Finally, could you sum up your venue and a wedding experience there in one sentence?
"At Mount Ephraim you can relax, take your time and enjoy your moment."
Below are some photos that I took during that styled wedding session showcasing some of the key features at this fantastic venue - enjoy!
