This is a really common question I see asked a lot on social media and in wedding forums, and it’s one that often divides the crowd – sometimes even generating a bit of anger. The simple answer is that it’s something you’re going to have to discuss with the photographer you have already booked, or any prospective photographers you may be meeting while planning your wedding.
Whilst many photographers (myself included) will be of the opinion that being fed is a bonus but certainly not to be expected, there are some that may feel a certain sense of entitlement on this matter and have it set out as a requirement in their contract. If you are ever in any doubt, check the wording of this in the paperwork, or just ask what your photographer would prefer.
A few things to bear in mind if you are considering providing some food for your photographer:
So ultimately, whether you feed your photographer is really up to you, but if you’ve already booked someone and it states in their contract that you need to supply a meal, then really you should do so. I have always had it as an option which the couple can decline if they wish, but in the vast majority of cases they have provided a meal, which is always greatly appreciated – but never expected – and I personally think this is the way it should be.
